Some Tips on Safe Electric Vehicle Charging

Table of Content [Hide]

With the popularity of electric vehicles in the market, many households have already purchased one. Therefore, many people worry about how to charge their electric vehicles in the best way possible. In fact, many users have many misconceptions about the charge and discharge of electric vehicle batteries. What should you pay attention to when charging your electric vehicle on a regular basis?

    1. Electric vehicle charging: do not discharge it too deeply

If the electric vehicle is deeply discharged and not charged in a timely manner, the probability of battery scrap is significantly increased. Moreover, if you request a tow truck, it will be both expensive and time-consuming. Deep discharge is not a good thing for the battery itself, so I recommend that you charge it when your vehicle's battery is at a certain level, or if you have charging conditions, you should charge it. It will not cause damage to the battery life if you charge it at a half-full state.

    2. Electric vehicle charging: do not charge it too full or too long

Although electric vehicles now have a battery protection function, such as when you continuously plug it into a charging station, it will automatically trip after being fully charged, and it even has a redundant protection. However, some electric vehicle charging does not handle it very well. If you keep charging the electric vehicle, problems will occur. Therefore, it is recommended that you unplug the charger as soon as it is fully charged, or set an alarm clock to remind you to unplug the charger. This is also better for the electric vehicle battery.

    3. Electric vehicle charging: pay attention to the environmental temperature during battery charging

For friends in suitable climates, there is no need to worry too much because in some places, the coldest temperatures are around zero degrees. In fact, under normal circumstances, the better charging temperature should be between 0°C and 45°C. For example, when it is below 0°C, it is not recommended to choose fast charging under extreme conditions. You can use slow charging to keep the battery in good condition and then do fast charging later, which is better. Also, during hot summer weather, I do not recommend doing fast charging for electric vehicles because it will increase the overall thermal management burden of the battery. Therefore, it is recommended to use a regular method to charge the electric vehicle.

It is also necessary to note that before charging, check whether the charging gun and charging port are clean. When charging an electric vehicle, be sure to inspect these and ensure that there are no stains, mud, or snow sticking to them, which is not good for electric vehicles. Furthermore, even in dire situations, do not charge your electric vehicle during heavy rain as this is a risky thing to do.
