How much power of electric car charger to choose

Table of Content [Hide]

The EV car comes with a charger that needs five wires to charge. In terms of AC piles, most slow charging piles or portable charger in China accept 220V AC charging, with output current of 16A or 32A respectively and theoretical power of 3.3KW or 6.6KW respectively. Considering 10% power loss, ac charging speed is still very slow.

EV charging cable are used to transmit electrical energy. But charging a pure electric car is not the same as ordinary household appliances. Whether the amount of electricity needed by pure electric cars or chargers, all belong to high-power appliances, so the requirements for charging cable at this time are higher. And with respect to the common aluminum core and copper core in our life at present two kinds of wire, aluminum core wire is cheap, but conductive performance is low, stability is poor, and copper core wire conductive performance is stronger, resistance is lower. Therefore, the wire used for charging pure electric vehicles is generally copper core wire, which can reduce the fire phenomenon caused by heat in the charging process to a certain extent.

From the perspective of AC station, most slow-speed charging station or portable charger in China adopt 220V AC charging, with output current of 16A or 32A respectively, and theoretical power of 3.3KW or 6.6KW respectively. Considering 10% power loss, ac charging speed is still very slow. For example, for an electric car with a general battery of about 20kwh, it takes 6-8 hours to be fully charged using the current mainstream 3.3kW AC charging method.
